There's something about the vastness of the universe that grips our attention and our imagination. The moon, in particular, maintains a unique hold on our heart and mind and lends its mystery to myth and magic. Although there are actual studies and statistics to the contrary, legends of the moon's power abound. Some of the rumors are purely based in fantasy and fear. Bitten men don't turn into werewolves and witches won't take off on their brooms.
Some rumors are easily explained. Wolves and coyotes don't howl at the moon; they may just be more active on a full moon because of the extra light.
Astrology gives the moon significant influence on our actions and emotions based on it's position in the sky at our birth and as it travels through the zodiac.
Despite the statistics that show that women don't go into labor more often on a full moon, than on any other day of the month, hospitals are known to staff more nurses in Labor & Delivery on full moon nights. There have been some studies that say that the full moon may actually affect a woman's water breaking, (much as it pulls the tide) but this is the only reason there should be any rise in births, and even then, the statistics say otherwise. (How many of your school mates all shared the same 13 birthdays in the year? Not many.)
Police officers will feel more alert on a full moon night because they, too believe that despite studies and numbers, there IS a rise in crime on those nights. Could it be that people, like the wolves and coyotes are taking advantage of the extra light?
Personally, I think that whether or not the moon affects us, the effects are much greater the more we give into them. It's sort of a psychosomatic thing; we think, therefore it is. I think the moon is supposed to be particualarly influencial on my emotions this month (according to my astrology). I'm not heading out to rob a Cstore, but it may be a good night to TP your friend's trees.
I don't have any personal stories of crazy things happening on the full moon. I wasn't born on a full moon. My husband wasn't either. None of my kids were (although 2 of them were born within a couple days before...does that count?)
Were you born on a full moon? How about your family? Any crazy happenings on those nights?
What do you think about it all? Let me know any great full moon stories you might have!

i think it ABSOLUTELY *does* contribute to the crimes, labor, etc., despite the research... btw my labor & delivery nurse friend is ALWAYS telling of how busy they are on those days around the ful moon. oi!! well, is it at all telling that I was born three days AFTER a full moon?! can i please blame my late entry to this planet & body on the infamous 'late factor' of my life that is so effing hard to shake?! ok. thanks. i will. super heart the moon pic!!
