I always think there are such great possibilities for this theme, and they usually choose the same old boring stuff. We'll see....
Paul McDonald - Old Time Rock and Roll : Of all the movie songs, he had to pick this one?? He definitely should have chosen something different. Seger was much better. I don't think this song or this performance did him any justice. Neither did the ugly suit.
Lauren Alainia - The Climb: I think she sounded fine, but to say she was better than Miley was a little over-the-top. I like Cyrus's version, so this performance wasn't super dynamic to me. I think it was a good song choice for her, though.
Stefano Langone - End of the Road (Boomerang): This seems like a bit of an ominous song to sing. End of the road for Stefano? Perhaps. I don't think he did enough with the song to transform it from a boy band song into a solo-artist idol song. Okay...Randy threw praise all over the place for it, but his "best vocal" doesn't necessarily mean best of the night.
Scotty McCreery - I Cross My Heart (Pure Country): I always wonder why he isn't on Nashville Star. And then I wonder if Nashville Star is even still on. And then I know why he isn't on that show whether it's on or not. Scotty is a good addition to AI. I hadn't heard George Strait on this song, but I did get to hear my husband sing every word along with him, and that was worth every moment of Idol tonight. (I love you baby.) He did say that George Strait was better, and that's coming from a George Strait fan, and also a Scotty fan. After listening to Strait, I have to concur. There is something engaging about that voice. But I still would like Scotty to stick around awhile.
Casey Abrams - Nature Boy: I'm a Casey fan, but this wasn't my favorite from him.
Haley Reinhart - Call Me (American Gigolo) : Kind of boring. Kind of didn't hit the right notes. Kind of think Stefano is safe.
Jacob Lusk - Bridge Over Troubled Waters (Pursuit of Happyness): Ugh, really?! After Clay Aiken rocked this song, I wasn't sure I wanted to hear Jacob even try. I was right. Ew! And now, Paul, Stefano, and Haley are all safe. Send Jacob home already!!
James Durbin - Heavy Metal: I'm done with James too. Not idol material. James didn't even do the guitar solo. Bye-bye. He really should have listened to the vocal coaches. Standing ovation....so not worthy. So, what are you pretending to tell us, judges? That somehow American Idol will be happy to produce a heavy metal album? Yeah, I didn't think so. Heavy metal needs good instrumentalists, not just some middle-of-the-road singer.
My choice to go home tonight....Jacob, James, Haley, maybe Paul has reached his end. Tonight, I only felt like Scotty, Casey, and Lauren deserved to stay. I wasn't left with any strong love for any of them.

American Idol LIVE review BEATLES week
So, I am getting grumpy about the judges reviews, so here's what I'm thinking...first impressions!
First of all, totally loving the chat from fellow contestants this week...it's a fun spotlight.
Aaron...Long and Winding Road: Not bad. Not his best, but a solid performance. The judges pretty much slammed him (especially Ellen...harsh!) and I totally disagree. He could have switched the arrangement up a little, but this girl gave him lots of well-deserved votes.
Katie...Let It Be: I thought this was a little too high. And...I like the original enough that I didn't love her performance, but again, not bad. The judges swooning over her was a little much. She still needs to "young" up her performances.
Andrew...Can't Buy Me Love: boring. I used to love him, but I'm really tired of him.
Big Mike...judges loved him, I didn't. It was fine, a little R&B-ish. But it was boring. The judges "loving it" was really annoying. Simon...spot on again!
Crystal...Come Together: As always, Crystal is awesome! It started sort of "common night club" to me, but she stepped it up and changed the song in a great way! (and loved the didgeridoo)
Tim...All My Lovin': I admit, I'm one of the only ones who still loves Tim. He's adorable. And the judges are always far too harsh on him. So, I would much rather have Andrew and Michael leave this week and next week. I can totally enjoy Tim for another couple weeks. His vocals this week, are fun. And he has the look and sound that has plenty of fans. I could honestly hear this one on the radio, because plenty of people are listening to this kind of song. Last week, Simon said no matter what he said, people would vote for Tim, and I agree. He's fun! (Randy...rude "a Tim category...lame) Simon...spot on! Again. Tim does take their criticism well and I love that he smiles while they give his reviews. No reason not to smile, and if that's his way of handling it, awesome. (In this house, his smile reminds us of my brother-in-law's smile...so BONUS!)
Casey...Jealous Guy: Fingering on the guitar...nice. Vocals...SWEET! Nice arrangement; I don't know how different it is from the original, because I am not familiar with the song, and I haven't looked it up, yet (I just realized that as I type, I'm not voting! arg!) The judges liked it too, but tonight, it sounds like Ellen is just parroting Randy's comments instead of using her own discretion. I'm totally going to miss Simon next season, because he is really the only judge that is consistently SPOT ON!
Siobhan...Across the Universe: I liked her in the beginning, but if she does the stupid scream tonight, I'm going to be doing my own screaming. I don't know why the judges (except Simon *yay*) like it, but sometimes she doesn't even hit the right note! Tonight's performance, kind of boring. She's not screaming, hooray. A little pitchy at times, it honestly reminded me of Dorothy singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", but not in any inspiring kind of way. Randy: "sleepy, but tender" yep. Ellen: "honor who you are" whatever Ellen. Kara: "still a fan" blah. Simon: lol @ the expressions "unpredictable" "much better than last week" yep. But still not my fav.
Lee...Hey Jude: I always LOVE Lee. Love the arrangement! Totally modern. I actually cringed when I heard the song he chose, but he changed my mind. He could record that today! lol...what's with the bagpiper?! lol Okay...LOVED it!!! Even simon is smiling!!! Randy: "I almost wore a kilt tonight, but I was like, naw, not tonight" "please believe!" awesome! Ellen: "you were smiling more" "you didn't even get rattled by that guy showing up" lol Kara: " that tone...I can hear you on the radio".
Beatles night is always awesome! Yay! Vote for someone besides Andrew and Mike. :)
