Bugged

I don't like these little things.

Clover Mite

Clover Mite magnified x200 (using the EyeClops that Allie got for Christmas)

Apparently they aren't bad, but imho, any bugs invading is bad.  I just don't really know what to do.  They were here when we had ORKIN coming to spray. In my research, it would seem the only thing to do is dig up the grass on the south side of the house so that it isn't up against the house. We could have flower beds there. Then, each spring and fall we wouldn't have to wipe up these little guys.

Dat Way Wacky

A random collection of 0ddities.

Trout?, Bobcat? and prey, JavelinaTaxidermy on display at a local fast food restaurant...not great pictures, but what else was I supposed to do in the face of the perplexing art. I laughed, but I'm pretty sure the other patrons were laughing at me laughing at the displays.

Yellow Crimson WatermelonThough the roadside vendor assured us that it was sweet and delicious, it took some prompting to get the kids to actually try it. The vendor was correct. It was yummy, but not worth twice the price of the seedless ones we love to get from HEB right now.

Cicada Remains...aka Men In Black Alien Pods
Alex mowed our friend's lawn while they were out of town and came home telling us that there were the freakiest bugs on the wall. As their description was simply not living up to Alex and Aimee's reactions, we grabbed the camera and set off on an animal adventure. When I told the kids "whatever was in it is gone" (actually, the first one, had yet to emerge) they were even more grossed out. We found this cool video on wikipedia that shows a cicada emerging from this larvae state. (scroll down to the nymph on the paper towel roll...it shows the cicada emerge)

Diaper CakeWhen the kids first heard that I was making a diaper cake for the Baby Shower, their response was "EWWW!" Until I explained that it wasn't for eating, they were adamantly against it. I kept it simple, but the the hostesses (who trustingly delegated out the table centerpiece) and mom-to-be loved it.
