Taxidermy on display at a local fast food restaurant...not great pictures, but what else was I supposed to do in the face of the perplexing art. I laughed, but I'm pretty sure the other patrons were laughing at me laughing at the displays.
Yellow Crimson Watermelon
Though the roadside vendor assured us that it was sweet and delicious, it took some prompting to get the kids to actually try it. The vendor was correct. It was yummy, but not worth twice the price of the seedless ones we love to get from HEB right now.

Alex mowed our friend's lawn while they were out of town and came home telling us that there were the freakiest bugs on the wall. As their description was simply not living up to Alex and Aimee's reactions, we grabbed the camera and set off on an animal adventure. When I told the kids "whatever was in it is gone" (actually, the first one, had yet to emerge) they were even more grossed out. We found
this cool video on wikipedia that shows a cicada emerging from this larvae state. (scroll down to the nymph on the paper towel roll...it shows the cicada emerge)
Diaper Cake

When the kids first heard that I was making a diaper cake for the Baby Shower, their response was "EWWW!" Until I explained that it wasn't for eating, they were adamantly against it. I kept it simple, but the the hostesses (who trustingly delegated out the table centerpiece) and mom-to-be loved it.
