She revealed to me that it was her favorite by small fits of giggles that grew into laughter that she couldn't manage to read through.
"Oh," he said, "it sounds like heaven. It smells like honey." He stuck his left ear out of the hole in the wall so that he could hear the music better, *snicker* and then he stuck his right ear out *giggle* so that he could hear *giggle giggle* better still. *giggle giggle chuckle* And it wasn't too long before one of his paws followed his head *giggle giggle giggle* and then another paw, and *giggle chuckle laugh* then, without any real planning on Despereaux's part, the whole of him *laugh laugh giggle giggle giggle* was on display, *giggle giggle giggle giggle* all in an effort to get closer to the music. *laugh laugh giggle giggle sigh*
Once recovered, she was able to finish the chapter before bedtime demanded her attention. As she lay in her bed, random thoughts of tonight's reading came to her, and once again, her voice lit up with mischief and delight when she recalled this part when "his paws followed his head."
Just this week we skipped the showing of The Tale of Despereaux at the library, and I'm so happy that we did. I think this book will be the first time that Allie gets to experience how much more vivid our multi-dimensional, multi-planal, multi-worldly imaginations can be than a two-dimentional movie. We will savor every word before renting the film, and will thoroughly enjoy both.
